How to have fun and stay safe too!
Safer sex can still be great sex. Safer sex is just what we call sex that reduces the risk of getting or passing on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses (BBVs) – and that’s what we all want, right? Sex can be a lot of fun and knowing you’re doing it in a safer way can help both you and your partner(s) feel more at ease.
How do you get an STI?
- You can get an STI from any kind of sexual contact: vaginal, anal or oral sex, skin to skin contact and kissing (although this is less ‘risky’ and only for some STIs).
- So, unless you’re going to just avoid having sex or sexual contact (which is cool for those who want to do that), it’s important to discuss protection and how to use it. For example, did you know the rod or the pillprotects against pregnancies but not STIs? Or that there is an ongoing syphilis outbreak in WA right now? Do you know how to do your own STI screen at home, or what symptoms to look out for? If you don’t, no worries! You’ve come to the right place. We have plenty of articles and resources to help and inform you, so you can have the safest (and most enjoyable) sex possible!
