The dating world is changing! It’s not like in our parents day where you would meet someone out and about. Now, there is a whole new way of meeting a potential partner. There is a number of apps and websites especially made to meeting someone. These days it is a simple as swiping left or right on your mobile phone.

I have a number of friends who have met their new partners on dating apps like Tinder, and they all have a happy relationship and now think it is funny that they met online. Is this new technology making life easier to meet someone, or are we losing social skills by actually going up to someone and talking to them in real life?

I must admit, it is quite strange being able to pit and choose the people I would like to talk to by looking at their pictures and reading their profile. Is this a good or a bad thing? These days you can stay in wearing your track suit, laying on the couch and chatting to someone online. Less and less people are going out to meet each other. Are people less confident to actually go up to someone and talk to them, or is it just easier to do it online?

So how many Australians are using online dating apps and websites? Choice did a review of a number of online dating sites and they found that there are 2 million Australians members, with 48% aged between 26 to 40, and roughly 50/50 female and male on this site.

According to an eHarmony spokesperson, they have more then 1 Million members aged in their 20s and 30s, and a large amount of older users with about 51% males and 49% female.

Oasis Active has 1.6 million Australian members, with 64% of users aged between 18 and 35, 27% are aged between 36 and 50 and roughly 60% of members are male and 40% female.

There is no specific stats found for Australian Tinder users, but Australia is Tinder’s third largest market, after the US and UK. 55% of users are male and 45% are female with 50% aged between 18 to 24.

This review shows that online dating is popular in Australia and it will be interesting to see how online dating will evolve with technology in the future, and if this will be the only way to meet someone.
