So I am sure everyone has heard all about dating apps by now. But have you heard of an app where you can make new friends?
Well I had not heard of these apps until just recently. Online dating and dating app’s have been shown to actually work. Much to my surprise I have met someone special and I heard a lot of other people who have done the same. But have you ever heard of someone meeting their best friend on an app.
When I first came across this I was wondering why anyone would need or want to use an app to find friends. So I decided to have a play around with my bumble account and see what it was like. It was very odd swiping on girls who also wanted to go for coffee and watch Netflix and chill but in a non-romantic way, just like on the dating apps. So I thought I would try it out and go on a friend date.
It was a very odd experience because being very blessed with my friends who I have known since high school I haven’t had to actively go out and make new friends before. So we caught up for coffee and it was exactly like being on a date but you are not hoping to be kissed at the end. You are still shy and nervous at the start and second guessing you’re every sentence thinking why did I say that!!!
But my new friend had moved to Perth from London for work and had left all of her friends behind. And the more I started to talk to her the more I realised just how important it is to have supportive relationships in your life and how we can take the relationships we have with our friends for granted. And just as hard as it can be to find a romantic partner it can also be hard to find a great friend after leaving school. It the end in was a real positive experience and I feel great being able to help someone fit in to a new city as well as making a new friend out of it. So if you are looking to find new friends because you have move for work or looking to meet some new people. Maybe give swiping a go and you may find your new bestie.
