Hey world, howsit going? My name is Susan and I’m 23 years old. Some of my friends call me Snooze, which might say something about my laid back personality and love of naps and sleeping in (they also call me Poosan but let’s not read into that).
At the end of last year I completed my studies at Curtin University with degrees in Health Promotion and Nutrition. I feel like I have really found my passion in Health Promotion, and can see myself building a lifelong career in this extensive and versatile field.
About halfway through my time at uni, I studied a unit called Sexology. It completely blew my mind, and altered everything I knew and believed about sexual health, sexuality, and relationships. I started volunteering at the WA AIDS Council as a result, wanting to get more experience talking with and educating young people about sex.
Since then, I don’t think I’ve ever really stopped talking about sexuality and health. I’m perfectly happy talking to just about anybody about it, which has lead to some pretty hilarious situations. I just feel that sexuality is a reality of life, but we’ve been conditioned to believe everything about it is wrong and shameful. By talking about it openly and without judgment, I truly think we can make a difference in peoples lives. I can’t wait to get started as a member of the YEP Crew and the YACWA team!
