Hi, I’m Golda and I’m 22 years old. I was a sexual health youth educator for four years, mentoring multicultural young people in sexual health and BBV knowledge and communication techniques to negotiate safe relationships with MMRC. For my work in this, I was honoured and humbled to receive the 2014 YACWA Youth Award in Cultural Endeavour award. This has been the most significant achievement in my life so far, I was so excited!
Since then, I have also made contributions to the health promotion sector through professional development, by facilitating cultural competency trainings that focus on cross-cultural communication for health service providers. I’m passionate about ensuring that young people and the youth sector are upskilled in being able to have the confidence and knowledge on how to have conversations on such taboo and sensitive topics – which being from a CaLD background, is extremely hard to do. But the thing is, just because our communities aren’t talking about it, it doesn’t mean youth and SHBBV issues don’t exist – which is more of a reason to ensure that we can, and are empowered, to talk about them.
I’m currently studying a Masters of International Relations at UWA. I have a passion for food, so I’m always either cooking or eating.
